From my experience, I see that God often subjects his people to a wilderness experience, A period of preparation in which we experience so many uncomfortable and tough situations. However, it is for the purpose of edification, and maturity. God needs us to be prepared enough so that his blessings would not lead us to lose our souls. A father would not let his underaged kids drive his car until he’s convinced that they won’t crash themselves. He ensures they are mature enough, and sends them to driving school until they master how to drive perfectly.
This is exactly how God treats his people but the problem is that a lot of people do not get this. Some Christians believe that suffering and hardship are merely a test of Faith and that if they hold on long enough, a miracle would happen. Some others believe that hardship is just a part of the Christian experience so they avoid going into a deeper relationship with God. The misconception goes on and on.
But I have come to realize that the wilderness experience is filled with a lot of dynamic factors. Although it involves a test of faith, the sole aim is for the edification of the people of Christ. to make us mature enough to handle his blessings and mandate upon us. God uses this period to rid us of so many vices, pride, envy, jealousy, mismanagement, poor leadership skills, lack of wisdom and discernment, and all sort of weaknesses that many believers genuinely think are not present in their lives. However, it takes certain conditions and situations to manifest.
Not being totally aware of why you are going through a wilderness experience in your Christian life, as well as not striving to perfect God’s purpose for this experience is the reason why most people have a hard time in their journey with God.
In Exodus 15:22-18:27, we see God taking the people of Israelites to a land of milk and honey, however, due to disobedience and immaturity in faith. A journey meant to take 40 Days took 40 years. This is exactly the case for our Christian journey. The faster we mature in the things of Christ, and are edified, The faster it takes for us to get to the promised land that is destined for every believer Jeremiah 29:11. We need to desperately seek the face of God towards not just the things we desire but working in accordance with His perfect will, and purpose for our lives.
In conclusion, For us to achieve the promise of God for our lives and have consistent breakthroughs, We need to ensure we align our daily lives with the will and purpose of God. We need to understand exactly what God is demanding from us. We need to work desperately towards our personal and spiritual growth. We need to develop management and leadership skills, we need to trust him to lead us step by step.
There’s a whole lot involved in this journey but the way to simplify the experience is by developing a deep intimate relationship with the holy spirit. Ensure you approach God always like David, always admitting to your weaknesses and vices that you may not even be aware of. Gauge your spiritual level always by asking God what level you are at with him, asking him to expose you and help you grow daily. Your growth, obedience, and commitment to the will and purpose of God are what bring you success.
